Help keep your Lupin Industry Safe
Over the next few weeks, the Department of
Primary Industries will be conducting a statewide survey to confirm that
Victoria is free of the exotic disease, lupin anthracnose, Colletotrichum
gleosporiodes.
Lupin anthracnose has the potential to cause
significant yield loss and is a big problem for growers in both Western
Australia and South Australia. Declaration that Victoria is free from the
disease helps maintain Victorian growers access to markets. Lupin crop
surveys in previous years (the last one was in 2006) have allowed our State
to make that official Declaration.
DPI agronomists in South-west Victoria are
seeking out lupin crops, with the aim of surveying at least 20% of the lupin
area in our region. If you have a lupin crop and are willing to allow us to
inspect it as part of the anthracnose survey, please call Chris Bluett on
5336 6625 / 0409 336 113 or Steve Holden on 5573 0738 / 0408 594 861.
If we inspect your crop, strict hygiene
protocols will be followed including the single use of disposable overalls,
boot covers and boot disinfection. We all need to be 100% confident that
pests and diseases cannot be spread from one paddock to another during the
course of this important activity.
